Overview

Game Meca is a member of the Internet Newspaper Association and is a representative web game expert in Korea. Based on the accumulated trust, it is a place where the content ripple power is great because it has affiliated articles in 30 places including JoongAng Ilbo, E-Daily, and Sports magazines, including major portals such as Naver, Daum, and Google. Also, by producing trendy content that is consumed and discussed a lot in online and social media, there are quite a lot of young subscribers as 150,000 Twitter and 20,000 Facebook followers show. As a brand, it operates the game information website “Kookmin Tree”, and is affiliated with portals such as Naver separately from Game Meca.

The Challenge

From the beginning, Game Meca built an infrastructure using domestic cloud services, but there was a problem of insufficient technical support and in-house infrastructure management personnel. The company had a problem that the application server was frequently down, and there was a shortage of server and DB specialized management personnel, so they needed support for operation and maintenance.
We decided that it is meaningful to provide better service to service users through the advantages of Cloud Computing by considering management point integration and efficient use of computing resources according to the operation of multiple domains in the company. We also plan to expand to SaaS services supported by AWS in the future.

The Solution

As a result of comparative analysis of the infrastructure, we decided to migrate to AWS, and Game Meca wanted to minimize service downtime during the migration.

After completing the server and DB analysis in the domestic cloud, applications and data were migrated to the AWS cloud in real time using Cloud Endure and DMS (Database Migration Service), and additional data updates were synchronized and synchronized.

Kookmin Tree, Game Meca, and Jeu Media 3 domains are integrated into a single ALB by load balancing by domain, and the existing private SSL certificate is replaced with SSL of AWS ACM to centrally manage all SSL/TLS ACM certificates.

By migrating MariaDB on Game Meca’s EC2, which lacked management manpower for DB operation and maintenance, to RDS, AWS’s fully managed DB, the database engine update and operation are supported without administrator intervention.

The problem of server down was to apply Auto-Scaling to build a scalable infrastructure even in the time when users are concentrated.

The Result

As a result of building an AWS-based service, the flexible infrastructure configuration of cloud computing has resulted in cost-optimization through the chronic server down problem caused by traffic and efficient resource use.

By minimizing the management point of the GameMeca infrastructure, the burden of the operation part was reduced by using AWS, and with that effort, we were able to provide fast and reliable service to users by investing in improving service quality and producing high-quality content.

In addition, by using CDN, the strength of A-cloud, we guarantee the optimal delay time for users accessing from overseas, and provide continuous infrastructure support from A-cloud after system migration.
